Air Canada experienced a strong rise in passenger traffic in 2015, as the airline embarked on a major expansion programme.
The airline’s traffic, measured in revenue passenger miles (RPM), increased 9.6% last year, in line with a 9.4% expansion of available seat capacity. Passenger load factors reached a healthy 83.5% – its highest ever full-year average.
“I am pleased to report our highest ever load factor for the full year 2015,” said Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada’s president & CEO. “These strong results underscore the effectiveness of our commercial strategy that contributed to Air Canada serving more than 41 million customers in 2015, an all-time record for the airline.”
With its new fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft driving its expansion efforts, Air Canada launched a series of new international services in 2015, including Montreal-Venice, Montreal-Mexico City, Toronto-Amsterdam, Toronto-Dubai, Toronto-Delhi and Vancouver-Osaka.
And it will continue to grow in 2016, with plans to add Montreal-Casablanca, Montreal-Lyon, Toronto-Prague, Toronto-Budapest, Toronto-Glasgow, Toronto-London Gatwick, Toronto-Warsaw, Toronto-Seoul, Vancouver-Brisbane and Vancouver-Dublin.
Air Canada now flies to 201 global airports, including 86 outside Canada and the US.
