The three-part series ‘Patagonia: Earth’s Secret Paradise’, picked up the LATA Media Award at an all-party parliamentary British-Latin American Group and LATA annual reception at the House of Lords, Westminster, last week.

MPs and Peers, Latin American diplomats, as well as senior members of the Latin American travel, hospitality and tourism industry attended the event, where the Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (with responsibility for Latin America), as well as Baroness Hooper, CMG, Honorary President of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Latin America, both offered insights into UK/ Latin American relations, highlighting the increasing demand for travel from the UK to Latin America.

The production team from the Patagonia documentary series were then honoured with the 2016 LATA Media Award, which was collected by series producer/director, Tuppence Stone, assistant producer, Anthony Pyper, production manager Gillian Goodlet and production coordinator Lucy Tucker.

LATA chairman Byron Shirto said: “Offering a glimpse into the rarely seen South American wilderness that spans the lower sections of Argentina and Chile; Patagonia, Tuppence and her production team have opened up a mysterious world that is still relatively unknown to an eager UK audience. Through this televised experience, the team has made a great contribution towards developing the UK’s understanding of South America moulding the desire to travel to this wild part of the world.”

Also inducted to the LATA Hall of Fame and acknowledged for her outstanding contribution to the Latin American travel industry was Lillian Mathieson from UK-based travel representation company Americas, and Merina Begg from Argentina Travel Partners, an inbound DMC operating in Argentina.
