London is the most popular destination for UK holidaymakers this Easter, while Dubai is the most expensive destination for a hotel stay, at an average of £170 per night, according to hotel search website Trivago.
Amsterdam ranks second at £166, followed by London, at £162. The cheapest destination is Liverpool, at £102 per night.
In most cases, prices during the Easter weekend have increased when compared to the monthly average during March. The worst case is in Amsterdam, where prices are up 20 per cent from the monthly average of £138. The only destination with a significant decrease is Manchester, where prices are down 7 per cent compared to the monthly average of £123.
Four star hotels are the most popular option this Easter, with 47 per cent of Trivago’s UK users opting for this star category. This is followed by three star hotels (30 per cent) and five star hotels (16 per cent).
UK users will take the shortest break this Easter, alongside the Spanish and Italians. The Irish, French and Germans have opted to take one day more, on average.
Denise Bartlett, Communications UK & Ireland: “Those checking into a hotel this Easter weekend are likely to be travelling abroad, with just four of the top ten destinations located in the UK. As is usual during a long weekend, the city break is a popular option, with capital cities taking the limelight this Easter. Dubai, which has increased dramatically in popularity among UK users over the past few years, is the only long-haul destination to feature in the top 10. UK travellers seem willing to spend a little more on their hotel this Easter, with the largest proportion opting for a four-star hotel.”
