Air China will start taking delivery of its new fleet Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft in the coming months, and the airline has now revealed the routes on which it intends to deploy the new jets.
The first B787-9 aircraft will arrive on 5 May 2016 and will initially operate domestic flights connecting Beijing with Shanghai and Guangzhou. These services will operate four and three times a day respectively from 1 June. The aircraft will then enter long-haul service on the new Beijing-Auckland route from 1 July.
Following the initial delivery, six more B787-9s are expected to be delivered by October 2016. They will be deployed on routes including the domestic service to Sanya and international flights to Frankfurt and Rome. Future destinations are expected to include San Francisco, New York, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Montreal and Havana.
Air China will configure its B787-9s with 293 seats in three classes – 30 in business class, 34 in premium economy and 229 in economy.
Three other Chinese carriers, China Southern, Hainan Airlines and Xiamen Airlines, already operate the smaller B787-8 Dreamliner, and Xiamen Airlines and Hainan Airlines also expect to take delivery of their first B787-9s later this year.
