Alitalia will launch a new direct service between Rome and Beijing this summer.
Commencing on 18 July 2016, the new route will operate four times a week, departing the Italian capital every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and returning from Beijing the following day.
The launch will mark the continuation of Alitalia’s long-haul expansion plan, following the start of new flights to Santiago on 1 May and Mexico City on 16 June. Beijing will become the Italian national carrier’s third destination in the Far East, following Tokyo and Seoul.
“We are committed to strengthen our presence in the Far East. The new route to Beijing represents a crucial investment for Alitalia as we continue to expand our network through increased long-haul flying to strategic markets”, said Alitalia’s CEO, Cramer Ball.
The new service will depart Rome’s Fiumicino at 1420 and arrive at Beijing’s Capital International Airport at 0620 the next morning. The return flights then take off at 0915 and arrive back in Rome at 1425.
Alitalia will operate the route using a 250-seat Airbus A330 aircraft with business, premium economy and economy class cabins. Passengers will also be offered in-flight Wi-Fi services.
Air China is the only carrier currently flying direct between Beijing and Rome. Alitalia also serves China as part of its codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways, offering flights to Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu via Abu Dhabi.
