The Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung, has joined Travelodge’s London regional director, Steve Lavery, to officially open the first budget hotel in Raynes Park.

The 86-room London Raynes Park Travelodge with Bar Café is a conversion of an office block and is located in the heart of Raynes Park on the corner of Coombe Lane and Amity Grove, close to Raynes Park mainline station. The hotel’s opening has created 18 new jobs within the community.

The opening also boosts the company’s portfolio to approximately 530 hotels. It is also the company’s second hotel in the Borough of Merton and 65th hotel in London.  It comes hot on the heels of recent Travelodge openings in Richmond, Greenwich and Hackney.

London is a key growth area for Travelodge, and Raynes Park is the first of four hotels that the company is scheduled to open across the capital this year. The other locations include: Belvedere, Finsbury Park and Finchley. These openings will create 100 new jobs.

Commenting on the opening, Lavery said: “We are delighted to open the first budget hotel in the heart of Raynes Park, in the Borough of Merton.  This opening marks our 65th hotel in London making Travelodge one of the biggest hotel brands in the capital. However we still have further growth planned as there is a growing need from cost conscious business and leisure travellers for good quality & value accommodation across the capital.  To meet this growing demand will are opening a further three hotels this year in: Richmond, Greenwich and Hackney.

“In addition we have also invested £13 million raising quality levels across all of our London hotels as part of our £100 million hotel modernisation programme. This investment has led to strong growth from business customers to complement our traditional strength in leisure travel.”

London Raynes Park Travelodge features family, double and accessible rooms. A Travelodge family room caters for either two adults and two children or three adults and features separate beds for children.

Each room has en-suite facilities with eco-friendly showers, in-room toiletries including liquid soap, a flat screen TV with free digital channels, free tea and coffee making facilities, and free Wi-Fi for 30 minutes during every stay.
