An Emirates Airline Boeing 777 travelling from the Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram with 282 passengers and 18 crew onboard has crash landed in Dubai.
Flight EK521 reportedly made an emergency landing in Dubai around 12.45pm local time.
Reports on social media suggested the aircraft’s landing gear had failed to deploy.
This theory appeared to be supported by pilot sources who witnessed the landing who said the aircraft hit the runway tail-first and “hard”.
The 777 caught fire after landing. According to a Dubai government statement, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated before the fire engulfed the aircraft.
Sadly one fire-fighter died trying to tackle the blaze.
“The Emirates flight coming from India crash-landed at Dubai International Airport and passengers were evacuated without reports of any injuries so far,” the government’s media office said.
“All departure flights from Dubai International Airport have been delayed until further notice.”
