Garuda Indonesia is planning to take advantage of the booming Chinese outbound travel market by launching a series of new charter flights over the Lunar New Year holiday period.

The Jakarta Post reported Garuda’s station manager in Bali, Micky Irfandi, as saying that the national carrier would launch five new routes connecting the “Island of the Gods” with mainland China this month.

These include flights from Chengdu, Shenzhen, Kunming, Chongqing and Xiamen, all of which will be operated using twin-aisle Airbus A330 aircraft. The planned flights are said to be awaiting final approval by China’s civil aviation authorities.

Garuda already operates scheduled flights from Bali to Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
