Indonesian airport closes after runway incident

One of Indonesia’s biggest airports was forced to suspend operations on Thursday after an aircraft skidded off the runway while landing.
The Jakarta Post reports that the Garuda Indonesia jet was attempting to land in heavy rain when it left the runway at Adi Sutjipto International Airport in Yogyakarta. The aircraft was carrying 123 passengers from Jakarta, but no injuries were reported.
“The rain was pouring hard. All passengers were safe,” a Garuda spokesperson told the newspaper.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night but the airport remained closed on Thursday morning while the stricken Boeing 737 was recovered.
