AccorHotels is planning to open 80 hotels in India by 2020, Hindu BusinessLine reported a senior company executive as saying.
The European hotel group is set to open 10 new Indian hotels this year, located in cities including Hyderabad, Goa, Jaipur, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore and Nashik. And the budget sector will drive this growth, with five of the 10 new properties opening under the ibis brand.
“In India, the metros are big areas for us. They are actually multiple markets in our view. Meanwhile, there are cities with significant economic activity to be present in where we open ibis or Mercure or small Novotel,” AccorHotels’ deputy CEO, Vivek Badrinath, told the newspaper.
The group currently operates 38 hotels across 15 cities and seven brands in India, with a total inventory of 7,621 keys.
AccorHotels is also currently in the process of concluding the acquisition of FRHI, the parent of Fairmont, Raffles, and Swissotel hotel brands, which will further bolster its Indian presence.
