Air Arabia recently announced its intent to open a new international hub at Amman Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA).
This will be the airline’s fifth fixed-based operation globally.
This announcement was post the acquisition of a 49% stake in Petra Airlines. The existing principle shareholder of Perta Airlines ‘RUM Group’ continues to maintain a 51% stake. The new partnership will also see the set up of ‘Air Arabia Jordan’ strengthening its position in low-cost aviation market within MENA and Levant region.
Operations for Air Arabia Jordan will commence in the first quarter of 2015. The newly established carrier will provide direct services to a range of destinations across Europe, Middle East and North Africa region from Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA).
Riad Khashman, chairman of RUM Group and Petra Airlines, said: “Our partnership with Air Arabia represents an important next phase in the progression of Petra Airlines. It will also be a catalyst for a new era of growth in Jordan and wider Levant region. Air Arabia Jordan will also be an important contributor to the local economy through creation of jobs and by increasing number of leisure and business travellers visiting Jordan.”
The airline will deploy two Airbus A320 aircraft based at QAIA and the fleet will grow as business demands.
