Air Canada has unveiled a fleet expansion plan intended to support its international growth.

The airline will add two new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to its mainline fleet, with deliveries scheduled for June and September 2013. The new wide-body aircraft will take Air Canada’s Boeing 777 fleet to 20 aircraft and its twin-aisle fleet to 58.

“The composition of our wide-body fleet is an important element of our key priority of leveraging our network to pursue strategic international growth and strengthen Air Canada’s position as a global player,” said Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada’s President & CEO. “The arrival of these new Boeing 777s, along with the 787 Dreamliners in 2014, will allow us to introduce new routes at the mainline carrier.”

The airline also said that new international services would be introduced with the addition of two B777s, but these won’t be revealed until a later date.
