Air France and KLM have expanded their operations in Central Asia with the signing of a new codeshare agreement with Kazakhstan’s national carrier, Air Astana.

Effective 11 March 2016, both Air France and KLM will start placing their flight codes on Air Astana’s three weekly flights (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays) between Kazakhstan’s capital city Astana and Paris. The route is operated using a 136-seat Boeing B757-200 aircraft.

“We are delighted to strengthen the cooperation with KLM and Air France as part of our bilateral partnership growth strategy,” said Air Astana’s president & CEO, Peter Foster. “The agreement adds the Kazakh capital to the KLM and Air France network and at the same time makes it easier for global travellers to fly with Air Astana to and from our home base using the Paris hub.

“These first steps pave the way for a strong and long term cooperation between the three carriers,” he added.

As part of the arrangement, the three airlines have also finalised baggage and passenger transfer agreements, and Air Astana’s Paris flights have been switched from T1 to T2a at Charles de Gaulle Airport.
