Air New Zealand’s inaugural flight to Vietnam has touched down in Ho Chi Minh City.
Flight NZ269 departed Auckland at 1245 on Saturday 4 June 2016 and arrived at HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport at 1945. The return service then left Vietnam’s largest city at 2145 and arrived back in Auckland at 1335 on Sunday.
Services will now run three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) on a seasonal basis until 29 October 2016. Air New Zealand will deploy a Boeing 767-300 aircraft on the route.
The inaugural flight carried New Zealand’s Minister of Economic Development, Steven Joyce, Vietnam’s Ambassador to New Zealand, HE Viet Dung Nguyen, and Air New Zealand’s chief sales & commercial officer, Cam Wallace, who were welcomed in HCMC with a traditional haka performance.
“This new service is a further expansion of our presence in Southeast Asia and our strategic focus on the Pacific Rim. We’re very excited to be able to offer our customers the first direct air link between New Zealand and Vietnam which will operate on a seasonal basis three times per week from now through until the end of October,” said Wallace.
HCMC becomes the 30th international destination in Air New Zealand’s network, and only the second in Southeast Asia after Singapore. The airline also plans to start flying direct between Auckland and Manila in December this year.
