Air New Zealand added extra capacity to and from Christchurch this week.
The national carrier has more than doubled the frequency of its flights between the South Island city and New Plymouth, in New Zealand’s North Island, with 14 additional weekly Bombardier Q300 services, increasing total capacity on this route to more than 67,000 seats per year.
Air New Zealand has also increased capacity between Tauranga, in the Bay of Plenty, and Christchurch, with flights rising from 18 to 24 per week, while eight more weekly services have been added between Christchurch and Hamilton, in the North Island’s Waikato region. Both of these routes are also operated using a Q300 aircraft.
“A number of customers travelling from New Plymouth, Hamilton and Tauranga to Christchurch have previously had to travel via Wellington. They will now have far greater travel convenience,” said Air New Zealand’s group general manager for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, Cam Wallace.
“We’re constantly reviewing and adapting our domestic network in order to meet regional passenger demand and we’re pleased to be facilitating the ongoing rebuild within the Canterbury region in this instance,” he added.
These changes follow the recent announcement of a new direct service from both Kapiti Coast and Perth to Christchurch, which launch on 4 November and 4 December respectively.
