Air New Zealand is adding more flights to its North American schedules.
Next year, the national carrier said it plans to offer extra flights from Auckland to both Los Angeles and Vancouver, to cater for rising seasonal demand.
At present, Air NZ’s Auckland-LAX service operates twice a day. But for the northern hemisphere summer season running from April to October 2015, the airline will add a third flight on the route, departing Auckland every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. The new services will boost the overall capacity of the route by 20%.
The additional Los Angeles services will depart Auckland earlier than the existing daily services, meaning it will arrive at LAX at around 0900, and enabling same-day connections to more US destinations.
The new flights are also expected to be popular with Australian travellers. The earlier departure time of the outbound flight will allow for connections from Melbourne and Sydney, while the return service will arrive in Auckland at 0700, in time to connect with flights back across the Tasman Sea.
“The extra flights are a good example of Air New Zealand listening and responding to customer feedback,” said Air NZ’s chief sales & commercial officer, Cam Wallace. “Frequent LA travellers told us they wanted to be able to arrive earlier, particularly when connecting to the US East Coast. We’re thrilled to now be able to offer this to our customers.”
In addition, Air NZ will increase the capacity of its Auckland-Vancouver services by 10% next year. From June to September 2015, the airline will operate five weekly flights to the Canadian city, up from three outside this period.
