AirAsia transfers aircraft to India

Malaysia’s AirAsia will transfer another one of its aircraft to the company’s Indian unit, following a new leasing deal.
The Bernama news agency reports that the Kuala Lumpur-based low-cost carrier has entered into an agreement to lease one of its 180-seat Airbus A320s to AirAsia India for US$1.9 million. This will be the third A320 AirAsia India has leased from its Malaysian sister carrier.
“The company currently leases aircraft to the other joint venture airlines within the AirAsia Group in its ordinary course of business, and in line with AirAsia’s growth strategies, the fleet expansion of AirAsia India would help to maximise the route opportunities in South Asia,” the company was quoted saying.
The AirAsia Group, which operates short-haul subsidiaries in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India and the Philippines, currently has a combined fleet of 184 A320s, with a further 345 on order. Of these, Malaysia AirAsia operates the largest number (82) while AirAsia India has the smallest fleet, with just four aircraft.
