American Airlines will start flying direct from Los Angeles to Hong Kong later this year.
Flights open for booking on 20 March and are due to commence on 7 September. Services will depart LAX at 0155 and arriving in Hong Kong at 0810 the following day. The return flights will then take off from HKIA at 2020 and arrive back in LA at 1840.
American will operate the route using its new 310-seat, four-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
“We announced new domestic Los Angeles routes at the end of January, and customers let us know they wanted more great service to even more destinations,” said Andrew Nocella, American’s chief marketing officer.
“This route connects customers in Los Angeles with one of the world’s most important business markets and provides convenient connections to important business and leisure destinations across the Pacific.”
LA will become American’s second service to Hong Kong, following its existing route from Dallas. The airline also flies from LA to Shanghai, Sydney and Tokyo’s two airports – Haneda and Narita – and a new route from LA to Auckland is also due to commence this summer.
American’s LA-Hong Kong service will be operated as part of its trans-Pacific joint venture with Japan Airlines.
