ANA to welcome first stretched Dreamliner

ANA is preparing to welcome its first “stretched” Dreamliner, when the Japanese carrier’s new Boeing 787-9 aircraft touches down in Tokyo next week.
The new aircraft is expected to arrive in Japan on Tuesday 29 July, following its trans-Pacific delivery flight from Seattle. It will then take part in a special flight on 4 August 2014, carrying Japanese and American schoolchildren on a sightseeing tour over Mount Fuji.
ANA was the Dreamliner’s launch customer when it received its first B787-8 in September 2011. It has now received 28 Dreamliners, out of a total order for 80 of the aircraft – 36 B787-8s and 44 B787-9s. The airline tends to operate its Dreamliners in a series of different cabin configurations, but B787-9s will offer approximately 60 more seats than the smaller B787-8s.
The new aircraft will be deployed in commercial domestic routes from August 2014, with international services expected to commence from April 2015.
The airline said the new B787-9s would “contribute to the continued expansion of ANA’s business, particularly in its international network”.
Boeing recently delivered its first ever B787-9 Dreamliner to Air New Zealand, and has outstanding orders for more than 400 of the aircraft. These include purchases from multiple Asian carriers, including JAL, Korean Air, Air China, Vietnam Airlines and Scoot.
