British Airways is to launch direct flights between London and Austin, Texas using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The service will launch in early March 2014 five times a week before moving to a daily service from 5 May. The Dreamliner on the route will have a three-cabin layout and fares are currently available to book in the airline’s sale.
BA already operates flights to Dallas and Houston in the Texas state.
“We’re excited to be the only airline offering direct flights from London to Austin. We believe it will prove very popular with both business and leisure customers and will be our third route to Texas, after Houston and Dallas,” said Lynne Embleton, British Airways’ director of strategy.
“In the pioneering spirit of the Lone Star state, we are flying there in one of the world’s most advanced aircraft, the 787, to encourage more business with the scores of hi-tech businesses based in Austin’s ‘Silicon Hills’”.
The launch will come ahead of BA’s summer schedule, which will kick off on 30 March with more long-haul frequencies. Its services to Seoul, South Korea will go daily, while the airline will offer three extra weekly flights to Accra, Ghana totalling 10 a week. More services will also be offered to Seattle and Entebbe.
In addition new aircraft deployment will increase capacity between London to Tel Aviv and London to Jeddah.
BA had already announced a larger long-haul operation from Gatwick for next year including more services to Orlando, St Lucia, Punta Cana, Antigua and Kingston.
BA’s short-haul schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
