In May this year, a total of 541,801 UK travellers visited the Balearic Islands, a 20.1% increase compared to the same period in 2016.
UK visitors in May to Mallorca increased by 17.6% year-on-year, Menorca experienced a 23.8% increase and Ibiza and Formentera combined reported a 24.7% increase.
From January to May 2017, a total of 818,802 UK tourists visited the islands, a 9.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
The increase of visitors during this period is in line with the new tourism strategy from the Balearic Islands Tourism Board, which aims to attract more visitors to the island all year round.
The ‘Better in Winter’ strategy places emphasis on the advantages of travelling to the destinations (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera) at a quieter, more authentic time of year and promotes the region as more than just a sea and sun destination.
The islands received a total of 1.912.559 visitors in May 2017, of which 28.3% were from the UK, making Brits the second most frequent visitors to the islands behind Germany (31.5%).
