Jet Airways carried more passengers in the second quarter of its financial year, driven by the deployment of larger aircraft.
The Indian airline boarded a total of 6.77 million passengers in the three months ending 30 September 2016, 6.3% more than the 6.37m it carried in the same period last year.
This was partially driven by a 5.7% expansion of Jet’s available seat capacity, boosted by the deployment of twin-aisle aircraft on more routes. Boeing 777s were deployed between Mumbai, Dubai and Singapore, enabling the airline to carry more passengers on high-volume routes.
“Improvements in operational performance have helped Jet Airways participate in the strong growth being witnessed in the Indian aviation market,” said Naresh Goyal, Jet’s chairman. “We have also ensured that our fleet deployment and our alliances and codeshare relationships are aligned to enrich the experience of guests.”
Traffic from Jet’s codeshare partners jumped 15.0% to 1.17m passengers, including a growth of 32% increase with Etihad Airways and its stable of airlines. Jet and Etihad now offer more flights to and from India than any other airline.
Jet also announced additional connectivity to North America and Europe over Paris with a new flight schedule that expanded its codeshare partnership with Air France and Delta Air Lines.
