Lufthansa switches to e-newspapers
Lufthansa passengers will now be offered a selection of online newspapers and magazines, as opposed to print options. Currently there are more than 250 digital titles available in 18 different languages. These can be accessed by Lufthansa passengers up to three days before their date of travel, and there are plans to extend the selection even further in the future.
Virgin creates kids’ lounge facilities
Virgin Holidays will open a new lounge at London’s Gatwick Airport on 25 January, with a series of amenities to keep children entertained. The new “V-Room” includes a racing car game, table football table and Xbox Kinect games for older children, plus a special area for toddlers including touch-screen games, a soft play area, slide and TVs screening child-friendly content.
Hotels.com unveils Apple TV app
Hotels.com is aiming to encourage more customers to take a trip with its new Apple TV app. Released at the end of December, the app showcases 600 activities in hundreds of destinations, from cycling in Amsterdam to surfing in Waikiki. Each activity features its own mini travel guide and Hotels.com says it is planning to introduce destination videos soon.
JAL develops mobile tools to improve punctuality
Japan Airlines is working with IBM to create new mobile apps to improve its punctuality. The airline, which already has one of the world’s best on-time performance rates, is working with IBM to develop iOS apps to improve aircraft maintenance. Using iPad Pro and iPhone, engineers will have access to tools that allow them to speed up checks and repairs between landing and take-off.
