Carnival Cruise Lines has unveiled a new marine-themed children’s programme across its fleet.

The Camp Ocean concept will debut on Carnival Freedom on 24 May with new activities and spaces that are aimed to children aged two to 11.

Camp Ocean will replace the current Camp Carnival programme with children separated under ‘Penguins’ for 2-5 year olds; ‘Sting Rays’ for those aged between 6-8 and ‘Sharks’ for 9-11 year olds.

Underwater themed areas will be on ships with activities including the Sea Creature Discovery, Marine Life Trivia and Design Your Own Aquarium.

Carnival Freedom, which entered drydock this week for a multi-million refurbishment, will have its own purpose-built Camp Ocean play area and Creative Cove breakout area. The new Carnival Vista will also have the area when it debuts in 2016, with Carnival Magic, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Triumph to have Camp Oceans later this year before rolling out across the fleet up to 2016.

“While our current children’s program consistently gets very high marks, we’ve challenged ourselves to exceed expectations with a truly dynamic and diverse program for our youngest guests,” said Mark Tamis, Carnival’s senior vice president of guest operations. “With our new highly tailored age groupings and themed activities connected to the oceans and their fascinating underwater habitats, we’re excited to invite kids to Camp Ocean to have an extra special and memorable Carnival vacation experience.”

Children will also be able to earn badges for completing tasks and activities onboard. The cruise line will also continue to roll out the Seuss at Sea programme and host its clubs for tweens and teenagers.
