Carnival Cruise Line has taken delivery of its 24th cruise ship, the Carnival Vista, which becomes the largest vessel in its fleet.
The 133,500-tonne ship was officially handed over to Carnival in a ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy this week, and will embark on its maiden voyage on 1 May 2016, sailing from the Italian Adriatic port of Trieste.
Carnival Vista will be able to carry up to 3,954 passengers in 1,968 cabins, including a new range of family rooms that feature their own pool area.
It also has a series of unique onboard features including a suspended cycling experience, called SkyRide, and the first IMAX theatre at sea. The Red Frog Pub & Brewery will also become the first craft brewery operating on a cruise ship, and will serve three of its own beers.
The ship’s outdoor spaces include a massive water park, called WaterWorks, the highlight of which is the 138-metre-long Kaleid-o-slide, which becomes the longest slide on any Carnival cruise ship.
“Carnival Vista is a spectacular addition to our fleet and we can’t wait for our guests to experience all of the ship’s exciting new features,” said Carnival Cruise Line’s president, Christine Duffy. “Carnival Vista will provide our guests an opportunity to create a lifetime of wonderful holiday memories, while offering our valued travel agent partners another exciting holiday option to market to their clients.”
Following its maiden voyage, Carnival Vista will operate a season of summer sailings in Europe, running until October 2016. It will then embark on a 13-day trans-Atlantic voyage to New York, from where it will operate two 11-day cruises in November, before relocating to Miami for a year-round Caribbean season.
