Cathay Pacific has moved to expand its Latin American connections with the signing of a new codeshare agreement with LATAM Airlines Brasil, formerly known as TAM Airlines.
Under the new partnership, Cathay’s ‘CX’ code will be placed on all flights operated by LATAM Brasil between London and Paris to Sao Paulo, and all flights between New York, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
In return, LATAM Brasil will place its ‘JJ’ flight code on Cathay’s flights between New York and Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific and LATAM are both members of the oneworld alliance.
“Our new codeshare agreement with LATAM significantly broadens the choices and connectivity between Asia and Brazil for our customers, expanding trade and tourism between two continents,” said Cathay’s chief executive, Ivan Chu. “We are pleased to be able to grow our relationship with our oneworld partner, LATAM, which is one of South America’s largest and most respected airlines.”
As part of the deal, LATAM passengers will be offered access to Cathay’s lounges at Hong Kong International Airport.
