China Eastern Airlines will purchase 50 more Boeing 737-800 aircraft, to cater for rising demand for its domestic and regional flights.
The Shanghai-based carrier announced the decision this week in a statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The single-aisle aircraft will be operated by China United Airlines, the Beijing-based subsidiary of China Eastern, and other regional subsidiaries of the carrier.
The latest order continues China Eastern’s single-aisle fleet expansion and renewal programme; the airline already has outstanding orders for more than 140 new Airbus A320 aircraft.
China United’s fleet currently consists of 31 B737s and three Airbus A319s.
