China Eastern Airlines has applied for permission to launch a new route connecting Kunming with Los Angeles, via Qingdao.
If approved by the US Department of Transportation, flights could commence as early as September 2016 and would operate three times a week.
Shanghai-based China Eastern plans to deploy its Airbus A330 aircraft on the route.
China Eastern already flies to LA from Shanghai, Chengdu and Nanjing, and the new route would mark the first US links for both Kunming and Qingdao.
