China Eastern Airlines will start flying to Madrid again this summer, for the first time in 13 years.
The Shanghai-based airline dropped its route to the Spanish capital in 2003, but it has now been confirmed that flights will resume on 28 June 2016.
The route will be operated four times a week, departing Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 1215 and arriving at Madrid’s Barajas Airport at 2045. The return flight will then leave the Spanish capital at 2255 on the same days, and arrive back into Shanghai at 1820 the following evening.
China Eastern will deploy a 232-seat, two-class Airbus A330 aircraft on the route, configured with 30 seats in business class and 202 in economy.
Two other Chinese airlines currently operate scheduled flights to Madrid, namely Air China from Beijing and Capital Airlines from Hangzhou. Spain’s national carrier Iberia is also expected to launch three weekly flights between Madrid and Shanghai in October 2016.
