China Eastern Airlines will introduce premium economy seating onboard its new fleet of long-haul aircraft.
The airline is revamping its twin-aisle fleet, with 15 new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and 20 Airbus A350-900s due to be introduced between 2018 and 2021.
And the Shanghai-based carrier has now revealed that it will equip both these new aircraft types with four cabin classes, including premium economy.
The B787-9s will be configured with a total of 285 seats: four in first class, 26 flat beds in business class, 32 seats in premium economy and 227 in economy. The A350 will seat 288 passengers in total, with four suites in first class, 36 flat-beds in business class, 32 seats in premium economy and 216 in economy class.
At present, China Eastern’s long-haul B777s feature three cabins while its A330s have just two classes.
