CLIA has announced its promotional week will be a pan-European initiative this year with the announcement of CLIA Cruise Week.
Andy Harmer, director of CLIA UK & Ireland revealed the consumer-facing promotional week will take place from 27 September to 5 October this year with a focus on destinations.
It has been renamed from National Cruise Week due to its pan-European spread which will also encompass the regional CLIA offices in France, Germany, Belgium and more.
He also revealed Columbus Day will not take place this year while the association focuses on more sector-based expos and regional agent training.
Its River Cruise Convention will return for its fourth year and will be held in Amsterdam, while a new Expedition Expo will take place in Portsmouth on 1 July.
“Columbus Day will be rested this year to focus on other events such as our regional training sessions for travel agents, which are a great platform to share updates and network,” said Harmer. “We’ve also recently announced our Premium and Luxury event and are working with All Leisure to create the expedition expo in Portsmouth.”
CLIA’s Selling Cruise Conference is taking place in Southampton over the next two days with 480 delegates. Harmer revealed another 150 agents had wanted to attend but couldn’t due to capacity constraints.
Half the travel agents attending the show over the next two days have also decided to stay on until Saturday to visit MSC Opera and Celebrity Eclipse, he added.
