Ocean Countess celebrates her new star status in Liverpool.

Cruise and Maritime Voyages’ Ocean Countess took the stage in Liverpool last week as she became the first ship to use the new turnaround cruise facilities at Liverpool’s Pier Head on 29 May.

The line held a civil reception at the adjacent Malmaison Hotel, in the presence of long list of VIP guests that included the Earl & Countess of Derby, Lord Mayor Sharon Sullivan and the elected Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson.

After lunch on board and the civic reception, the opera singer Danielle Thomas gave an emotional version of ‘Time to say goodbye’ whilst folk Singer Ian Prowse sang ‘Heart as big as Liverpool’. In addition to invited guests, members of the public packed the quayside promenade to catch a glimpse of the spectacle and join in the celebrations. The Countess of Derby gave a moving speech followed by the traditional blessing offered to Neptune for the safe passage of the ship with ceremonial throwing of a bag of coins.

Commercial director, Chris Coates said: “We are so proud that our ship Ocean Countess led the way for this important moment in Liverpool’s remarkable history as a major maritime port,” said Chris Coates, commercial director at CMV. “We have enjoyed TV, radio, press and online coverage for the last few days around the world”.
