Crystal Cruises has christened its new luxury yacht in the Seychelles, ahead of its inaugural voyage.
The Crystal Esprit becomes the first yacht to join the fleet of Crystal’s new venture, Crystal Yacht Cruises, which was announced earlier this year as part of a major expansion of the company’s operations.
Edie Rodriguez, Crystal’s president & CEO, attended the ceremony, accompanied by executives from Genting Hong Kong, which acquired Crystal earlier this year.
“To say today is a special day is an understatement,” said Ms Rodriguez. “Since joining Crystal just over two years ago, a personal goal of mine has been to see Crystal realise the next step in continuing to pioneer luxury travel and hospitality; and today I am seeing that dream fulfilled.”
Crystal Esprit is a 62-passenger, all-suite luxury yacht that will offer voyages to destinations including the Seychelles, the Arabian Gulf and Adriatic Coast. The vessel comes equipped with a two-passenger submarine and four 10-passenger zodiac boats for excursions.
This marks the start of a major expansion plan for the company, with Crystal River Cruises launching on Europe’s waterways in 2016, and Crystal Luxury Air taking off in 2017, providing first-class private air tours around the world on a specially-designed fleet of Boeing jets. Then in 2018, the company will launch its new Crystal Exclusive Class ocean cruises.
