CTO reveals strong growth

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) has released its latest visitor figures for January to August 2017, showing continued growth in 2017.

From January to August 2017, global tourist arrivals to the destination reached 2,517,887, compared to 2,196,017 in 2016; a year-on-year increase of 14.7%. UK arrivals during this period reached 185,831; a 7.9% increase compared to the 172,236 UK arrivals from January to August in 2016.

During the month of August 2017, Cyprus welcomed 523,651 global visitors; a 14.2% increase on August 2016, which saw 458,645 global tourists visiting the country. Of these, there were 185,831 UK visitors compared to the 172,236 UK arrivals in August 2016; a 7.9% year on year increase.

In July 2017, 531,030 global tourists visited the island compared to 482,132 in July 2016 (a 10.1% increase). Of those, there were 176,880 British tourist arrivals in July 2017; up 6% from the same month in 2016 when 166,874 British tourists visited the island.

Mr Orestis Rossides, UK director of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, said: “Tourism is an important sector for Cyprus and we’re proud to announce that 2017 is on track to be another record-breaking year. Our longer-term goal is to reach six million global tourist arrivals by 2030 and we are committed to supporting this strong growth with the necessary infrastructure.”
