The first ship in the fleet of Dream Cruises, Genting Hong Kong’s new high-end Asian cruise line, has started its long journey from the German shipyard where it was built to its new home in China.

Following 18 months of construction, Genting Dream left the Meyer Werft shipyard on 18 September to make its way down the River Ems en route to the Netherlands, where it will undergo initial testing.

Following further sea trials, an official handover ceremony will take place on 12 October, ahead of the ship’s first ocean voyage from Germany to Guangzhou, via Gibraltar, the Suez Canal, India, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. It is finally expected to arrive in China on 13 November.

Genting Dream is able to accommodate 3,400 guests in 1,674 rooms. It will also feature more than 35 restaurants and bars, a Zouk nightclub, and will stage editions of the TV show ‘China’s Got Talent’ from its onboard theatre.

Dream Cruises will be the sister brand to Genting Hong Kong’s Star Cruises.
