A Dreamliner operated by Japan Airlines was forced to return to Boston airport on Friday after a mechanical fault onboard.

The Boeing aircraft was en route to Tokyo when a mechanical indicator alert came on around five hours into the journey.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “As a standard precautionary measure due to a maintenance message indicator, JL007 bound for Tokyo-Narita is returning to Boston Logan for checks.”

The incident caused a 1.7% drop in Boeing shares as fears around its newest aircraft remained. The model is still under investigation after a fire on board an Ethiopian Airlines jet last week.
