Thai hotel group Dusit International has confirmed that its D2 brand will return to Phuket.

The previous D2 hotel in Patong Beach was recently rebranded as a Swissotel, but Dusit has now signed a management contract for a new-build property in Surin Beach.

Being developed on 2,800m² site on the island’s west coast, 30 minutes’ drive from Phuket International Airport, dusitD2 Phuket Aria will offer 210 rooms across eight floors, ranging from studios to one- and two-bedroom units and family suites. Designed for long-stay guests, each room will feature a kitchenette area equipped with a microwave and stove.

Facilities will include a rooftop pool and terrace overlooking the Andaman Sea, a restaurant and courtyard garden. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2020.

“Surin Beach is a wonderful destination and the hip, young, design-conscious crowd it attracts is the ideal market for our distinctively modern hotel brand,” said Dusit’s group CEO, Suphajee Suthumpun.

“We look forward to working with Layana Development to create a hotel experience that not only delights in terms of contemporary design and gracious service, but which also meets the needs of today’s hyper-connected travellers.”

Dusit currently operates five D2 hotels in Thailand, China, Kenya and the US, but a further 13 are in the pipeline in destinations including Bhutan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Oman, the Philippines, Qatar and the UAE.
