Edinburgh Airport has seen a 1.9% drop in passengers for August year-on-year, citing uncertainty in the domestic market.

The Scottish airport carried 936, 700 passengers last month as carriers reduced flights from the airport, while the purchase of bmi has also affected its figures. However, the airport is confident about its future thanks to new routes.

“August has continued to see the same issues that affected passenger flows throughout the summer. It’s a small percentage but with the interest in the slots for Heathrow from airlines such as Virgin Atlantic and Aer Lingus, I’m confident the uncertainty will be resolved,” explained Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport.

“Our international performance, given the economic conditions, is fantastic. Our new route to Istanbul and the strength of Schiphol as a hub are really driving this area forward,” he added.
