Emerald Waterways launched its two newest ships, the Emerald Sun and Emerald Dawn, in an exclusive christening event on Friday, 21 August, in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest.
Godmother to the Emerald Sun is UK travel industry expert, Julie Kendrick, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the travel industry. Speaking about the special event, Julie said: “The Emerald Sun, with her innovation and style, will bring immense enjoyment and everlasting memories for everyone who sails in her.”
The new additions to Emerald Waterways’ Star Ship fleet carry 182 guests in 72 suites and 20 staterooms, including two innovative suites specifically built for solo occupancy. Ship facilities include an onboard heated swimming pool with a retractable roof, which transforms into a cinema in the evening, as well as two restaurants – Reflections, the main dining room, and The Terrace, which serves breakfast and lunch. In addition, there’s an onboard hairdresser, massage therapy room and fitness area.
The ships also feature a new type of cabin design that replaces the run-of-the-mill French balcony. The new indoor balcony comes complete with decked area and an ingenious open-air system. With the simple push of a button, the upper half of the floor-to-ceiling panoramic window drops down to transform it into an outdoor balcony.
