From 31 March 2013, Emirates will operate 35 flights a week to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, plus a daily Airbus A380 service between Bangkok and Hong Kong and a daily flight between Bangkok and Sydney, which then connects to Christchurch. These services, along with recently-launched Dubai-Phuket flights, take Emirates’ total number of weekly Thailand flights to 56.
“Emirates has been operating flights to Bangkok since 1990 and this capacity increase, combined with the launch of the Phuket service in early December, demonstrates what an important market Thailand is to us,” said Salem Obaidalla, Emirates’ Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for the Far East & Australasia.
“This new service will benefit Thailand’s tourism sector by bringing even more visitors from the likes of the Middle East and traditionally strong markets like Europe and Australasia. In addition, both our passengers and cargo customers will have the added flexibility of being able to choose from five flights a day between Dubai and Bangkok, and onwards to our expanding route network,” he added.
The extra Bangkok flight will be operated using a three-class Airbus A330-200 aircraft, departing Dubai at 0340 and arrive in Bangkok at 1300. The return flight will depart Suvarnabhumi at 1525, arriving back into Dubai International Airport at 1830. From 1 September 2013, the service will be upgraded to a three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The move follows the recent announcement by Qatar Airways that it would launch a fourth daily flight to Bangkok from February 2013.
