Emirates has signed a new agreement with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) that will see the carrier promote travel to the kingdom to its passengers, and potentially add more Thai routes.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Bangkok this week will see Emirates and the TAT embark on a series of joint promotions, mainly focusing on niche tourism markets such as sports, luxury and eco-tourism, weddings and honeymoons and health and medical travel.
The agreement also involves the possibility of Emirates launching direct flights from Dubai to new Thai destinations, such as Chiang Mai and Pattaya.
“Tapping into Emirates’ extensive global network will give the Tourism Authority of Thailand access to markets in regions that hold great potential for our unique tourism proposition,” said Juthaporn Rerngronasa, the TAT’s deputy governor for international marketing – Europe, Africa, Middle East & Americas.
“Through this MoU, our aim is to jointly put in place the best strategies and practices to increase Thailand’s marketing footprint and position it as a quality leisure destination.”
In 2015, Emirates carried more than 700,000 passengers to Thailand. The airline is also planning to add a seventh daily flight to Bangkok on 1 July.
