Garuda becomes official airline of Liverpool FC
Garuda Indonesia has signed a deal to become the ‘Global Official Airline’ of English Premier League side, Liverpool FC.
The deal, which will last for three seasons (2012–2015) will see a range of joint promotions and marketing activities, including carrying the Liverpool team on tours of Asia. Next year, Liverpool plans to visit several Asian countries on its summer tour, including Indonesia. Garuda will also place advertising around the pitch at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium during home games.
The agreement was signed in Liverpool by Garuda Indonesia’s President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar and Liverpool FC’s Managing Director, Ian Ayre, and witnessed by legendary Liverpool star, Ian Rush.
“Liverpool has fans all over the world and we are ready to work together with Garuda Indonesia and assist in their rapid growth. We are honoured to join forces with one of the best brands in the global aviation industry, especially a brand that comes from a country that has a strong and unique fan base that we are very proud of,” said Ayre.
“We are very pleased to join up with Liverpool Football Club. They are one of England’s best football clubs and is already a well-known global brand, with fans and supporters all over the world, including in Indonesia,” Satar added.
Garuda said the partnership formed part of its ‘Quantum Leap’ programme to transform the airline into a global company. While Garuda doesn’t currently offer flights to the UK, it intends to launch direct flights to several European destinations following the delivery of its Boeing 777-300 aircraft next year.
