Garuda Indonesia has signed a new codeshare agreement with Delta Air Lines that will give it access to the US market.

Under the new arrangement, Garuda will place its ‘GA’ code on Delta’s flights from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Los Angeles and Seattle. The flights will be timed to connect with Garuda’s flights between Jakarta and Haneda.

Garuda and Delta are partners in the SkyTeam Alliance.

“This partnership is part of Garuda’s strategy to enhance its network worldwide, especially to the United States,” explained Erik Meijer, Garuda’s executive vice president of marketing & sales.

“Through this codeshare agreement both carriers will offer more options to our respective customers for more convenient schedules and seamless travel between the two countries. This partnership is… part of Delta and Garuda’s initiative as joint members of the SkyTeam global alliance.”

The new codeshare flights are pending final government approvals and are expected to be available for purchase in July 2014.

Delta’s trans-Pacific flights from Haneda are operated using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, while Garuda serves the Haneda route using its Airbus A330-300. Both aircraft offer full flat-bed seats in business class.
