Genting has celebrated the arrival of its new luxury Asian cruise ship, Genting Dream, in Hong Kong.

The new vessel, which becomes the first in the Dream Cruises fleet, sailed into the city on 12 November following a cruise from Europe where it was built. Genting Dream will now operate a series of two-night weekend cruises between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and five-night cruises to destinations in Vietnam, including Danang and Halong Bay.

Dream Cruises is the sister brand to Genting’s existing Hong Kong-based cruise line, Star Cruises.

“As the first-ever Asian luxury cruise line to make Hong Kong its home port year-round, we are deeply committed to helping to further develop the cruise market here,” said Thatcher Brown, president of Dream Cruises.

“Tourism is vital to the economy of the city and our two itineraries originating from Hong Kong will help boost the industry overall, including for hotels, tour groups, local attractions, restaurants and other merchants.”

Genting Dream is 335 metres long and has a capacity of 3,352 passengers. Designed specifically for the Asian – and particularly the Chinese – market, the ship offers a vast array of amenities including submersibles, a water park, spas, kids’ clubs, an onboard cinema, casino, Zouk nightclub, 35 restaurants and bars, and a theatre showing ‘China’s Got Talent’.

“We designed the ship essentially as a floating, luxury, integrated resort,” Brown explained. “Genting Dream will cater to multigenerational families with all‑inclusive activities.”

The new ship will operate from the twin homeports of Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Dream Cruises’ second ship, World Dream, will start sailing in October 2017.
