Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas is in the Bahamas for repairs after a fire broke out on the ship.
The vessel was heading to Coco Cay, Bahamas when an as yet unexplained fire broke out on the aft mooring deck.
All 2, 224 guests and 796 crew onboard the ship have been accounted for with guests allowed to return to staterooms and most public rooms shortly after the blaze was put out.
The ship docked overnight in Freeport for tests, with some guests sleeping onboard and others on shore. Adam Goldstein, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean, along with other executives, headed out to see the ship in Freeport and help repatriate passengers, who flew home on chartered flights.
Six cruises onboard the ship have now been cancelled while repairs take place, with the ship expected to be back at sea by mid-July.
Royal Caribbean’s PR team have been updating its Twitter feed regarding the incident, saying the ship’s power, propulsion and communication systems continued to operate during the fire, which was extinguished at 4.58am (EDT).
