GTA has embarked on the next phase of its Strategic Partnership Program (SPP) for Thailand, by teaming up with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and tvN to host a fam and filming trip in Bangkok.
On 24 August, GTA and the TAT welcomed travel agents for a four-day fam trip that included the filming of the latest part of tvN’s new travel series, MUST (My Unexpected Sweet Trip). This came just weeks after the first edition of MUST was shot during a GTA-organised fam trip to Hong Kong, which was arranged in partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB).
The tvN programme will focus on Bangkok’s luxury attractions, as part of the TAT’s renewed focus on attracting more “quality” tourists.
“The TAT has been working extremely hard to reposition Thailand as an upscale travel destination,” said Cyndi Ng, GTA’s head of market development & strategic partnerships. “We are delighted that GTA is able to harness its global network of travel trade partnerships and help the TAT achieve this ambition.”
Agents selected to take part in the Thai fam trip were able to join the tvN film crew, including South Korean model and presenter Irene Kim, as she explored Bangkok. This English-language programme will be aired on tvN immediately after post-production in October.
Elements of the fam trip included a local tuk-tuk tour, visits to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, a river and canal boat tour, and the chance to watch a traditional Muay Thai boxing match in the company of Ms Kim.
GTA also used the fam trip to undertake its own Thai film shoot, with the final video to be used in its travel trade workshops. This destination video will also highlight GTA’s SPP hotel partners, such as the new Amara Bangkok.
