The Chinese island province of Hainan is aiming to drive more tourists from the US, following a major promotion in New York‘s Times Square.

A 15-second promotional film, entitled ‘Take a Deep Breath in Hainan’, is designed to show the island’s “well-preserved ecological environment and the harmony between mankind and… nature”, with images of Hainan’s Phoenix Islands, Yalong Bay, Boundary Island and Qixian Mountain, among other attractions.

The film was shown on Times Square’s famous giant electronic screens, close to the pedestrian crossing in Manhattan where more than 500,000 people walk every day.

The Hainan Tourism Development Commission said this was “one of the initiatives to attract more international tourists in 2015”. Hainan welcomed more than 40 million visitors last year, but only about 2% were from overseas.
