Hong Kong Airlines’ inaugural flight to Auckland touched down on Friday morning, marking the airline’s debut in New Zealand.
Services will now operate daily, direct between Hong Kong and Auckland using a 283-seat, two-class Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
And Hong Kong Airlines will increase the route’s frequency to 10 flights per week between 11 December 2016 and 13 February 2017, to meet heightened demand over the festive season and Chinese New Year. The three additional flights will depart HKIA every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
“We are delighted with the successful launch of this much-anticipated new route in Auckland,” said Li Dianchun, Hong Kong Airlines’ chief commercial officer. “So far we have received an overwhelming response from travellers since tickets became available for purchase. As a result, we have already increased our service to 10 times weekly from 11th December 2016 to 13th February 2017.
“We also anticipate strong demand out of the New Zealand market to Hong Kong and connecting on our network in Asia,” he added.
The regular daily flights will depart HKIA at 1520 and arrive in Auckland at 0730 the next morning. The return flights then leave at 0930 and arrive back in Hong Kong at 1555. The three additional weekly flights will depart Hong Kong at 0155 and Auckland at 0100.
Hong Kong Airlines joins Air New Zealand and Cathay Pacific on the Hong Kong-Auckland route.
