Hurricane Sandy causes New York Port to close

The Port of New York has closed in preparation of Hurricane Sandy – meaning that cruise lines, including Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Disney and Carnival have all had to alter their itineraries.
Norwegian Cruise Line made an announcement regarding the Norwegian Gem, Jewel and Dawn which are sailing within the region and could be affected by the storm while damage has been done to other ports in the storm’s wake including Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay – the line’s own private island.
Norwegian Gem will remain at sea with guests due to embark in New York asked to remain at home until the terminal is reopened. The Jewel, which is on its way to Port Canaveral and will arrive as scheduled on 30 October while the Dawn is in Halifax and will overnight there.
For Royal Caribbean, Monarch of the Seas and Majesty of the Seas skipped calls at CocoCay while Disney Cruise Line is assessing the state of its own private island, Castaway Cay.
Carnival Cruise Line was forced to cancel a cruise onboard the Carnival Glory on 28 October from Virginia because of the storm.
