Indian Railways’ e-catering service has now been expanded to 408 stations nationwide.
Minister of Railways, Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, recently announced the expansion of the scheme, which enables rail passengers to pre-order their onboard food from a series of private catering companies.
Orders can be made by phone, SMS, online or via a mobile app, and passengers can pick up their orders at the stations.
The e-catering scheme is part of a series of digital initiatives being rolled out by Indian Railways to modernise its services. As well as e-catering, the minister launched a new e-ticket booking facility for accredited journalists.
Manoj Sinha, Minister of State for Railway, who was present at the launch in Delhi, said that Indian Railways is bringing new culture to India’s rail network through e-governance and digital initiatives. He said that these services will benefit passengers.
